Gulf of Mexico

Technically speaking, the Gulf of Mexico is an ocean basin largely surrounded by the North American continent. At its largest width, it is over 900 miles wide and is approximately 615,000 square miles in size. Because of it’s narrow connection to the Atlantic Ocean, the Gulf of Mexico experiences very small tidal ranges. The Gulf of Mexico offers unlimited boating, deep sea fishing, scuba diving, sailing, and a plethora of other water related activities and experiences for the vacationer or the full time resident.

The Beach

Carillon Beach is all about the beach and beach living. Whether you want to engage in active water sports such as swimming, surfing, skim boarding, paddle boarding, and sailing, or just relax, read a book under your umbrella, or throw a fishing line into the surf, the beach is where it all happens. The community of Carillon Beach has over 3,900 linear feet of beach, so don’t forget to take a walk everyday – sunrise and sunset are great times to take a stroll, pick up a few shells, and head down to the historic pier at Camp Helen for photos opportunities.

Lake Carillon

Lake Carillon is a 13 acre heart-shaped lake, located in the eastern section of Carillon Beach. The lake is full of interesting coastal species – turtles bobbing their heads above the waterline for air, ducks swimming around in their family processions and parading on the lake’s shore, jumping mullet, wide mouth bass to be caught and released, and winter visitors of teal and other varieties of water fowl. You will see yoga students in yoga classes, balancing on paddle boards in the lake, as well as recreational paddle boarders and anglers in kayaks enjoying the fishing.

The Pier on Lake Carillon

The pier on Lake Carillon is located adjacent to Castaways Restaurant and south of the Carillon Beach Weddings and Events office. The pier is a great place to enjoy a meal on a nice sunny day, throw a line in the lake to see what you can catch, or just sit and watch the lake’s abundant wildlife. The pier is also one of a variety of excellent wedding venues available throughout Carillon Beach. Access the pier from Castaways or one of the sidewalks leading from Carillon Market Street to Lake Carillon.

Lake Powell

Coastal dune lakes are lakes that occur in coastal communities along the Gulf of Mexico. The lakes are rare ecosystems only found in the Florida Panhandle, Madagascar, Australia, and New Zealand. They are freshwater systems that intermittently exchange water with the Gulf of Mexico through a meandering outlet. The periodic opening and closing is what makes coastal dune lakes so unique. Lake Powell is the largest coastal dune lake in Florida, holds the coveted “Pristine Florida Waterway” designation, and is a special Carillon Beach amenity.

Bellview Park

Bellview Park is located at the west end of The Promenade and provides family activities with a children’s pool, playground, and playhouse. There is an oversized heated pool with pool house, pavilions, showers, and restrooms. Also at this location is a basketball court where you can shoot some “hoops” or play a full-on game of basketball. If you prefer to play tennis, there are two composite tennis courts at Bellview Park where you can meet family members or friends for “singles” or “doubles.” The “green” is a great place to throw the football or kick the soccer ball.

Bellview Park Pool

There are two pools at Bellview Park – a children’s pool and an oversized pool that is heated during the winter and spring break seasons. These pools have a large deck area with chaise lounges, tables and chairs with umbrellas. Also included in this area is a pool pavilion with showers and restrooms. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the day!

Tennis Courts

Carillon Beach has two composite tennis courts located in the Bellview Park area of the community. Bring the whole family as there are lots of other activities at Bellview Park – basketball court, children’s playground and playhouse, green space, and swimming pools. While you play tennis, the rest of the family can do other activities.

Basketball Court

The former single basketball goal has recently been expanded into a full size basketball court with two goals and is ready for practice or play. Come over to Bellview park with family and friends and have a game of basketball before enjoying a nice swim in the pool which is heated during winter and spring break for your convenience and enjoyment.

Beach Club & Pool

The Beach Club and Pool provide a place for gathering, swimming, or simply contemplating the Gulf from the pavilion. The Beach Club Pavilion, designed by our community architect, Lloyd Vogt, of New Orleans, is one of many architecturally significant Carillon Beach landmarks. Lloyd had a special art of creating places with dignity and charm. This is one of those very structures as it dances with life, energy, and sophistication. The juxtaposition of grace and grandeur are a magic that Lloyd seemed to perfect with ease in his structures, whether complex or simple.

East Side Pool

The Eastside Pool, or Lake Carillon Pool, as it is now known, sits at the east end of the community, overlooking the waters of Lake Carillon, lakefront homes, the Meeting House, and Downtown Carillon Beach commercial area. This pool is restricted to adult use from 8:00-10:00 a.m. daily, but open to all ages for the remainder of the day. Like the Bellview Park Pool, this pool is heated, as needed, during winter months and spring break. This pool is adjacent to Walkover #7 to the beach.

Market Street Lakefront

There is a walking path on the north side of Lake Carillon from the Resort Pool to Castaways Restaurant. This paved walkway crosses in front of the Sunrise and Sunset Condominiums, the Carillon Beach Inn, and the Downtown townhouses and retail establishments. You can rent a paddle board at Walkin’ on Water Paddleboards store or enter Yoga Elements from this walkway to sign up for a yoga class. The Pier at Lake Carillon can also be entered from this pathway.

The Carillon Bell Tower

The Carillon Bell Tower, located at one of the highest points in the village, the Carillon Circle, has 35 bells. Historically, in medieval times, swinging bells were used as a way of notifying people of fires, storms, wars, and other events. The Carillon Bell Tower contributes to the community of Carillon Beach what carillons have given towns and villages for centuries. The tower provides both a visual and a cultural focus for the village.

Meeting House

The purpose of the Meeting House is to serve as a beacon of Community for Carillon Beach for many years to come. Two principals guided the design of the Meeting House by architect Lloyd Vogt: 1) A space that was more vertical than horizontal to render spiritual emotion and 2) the inside and outside were experienced as a unity so as not to compete with nature. The building materials would all be natural and the building would be built in the Classical Greek “Golden Rectangle” proportions. The building has a bell tower, the archetypical symbol of community.

The Resort Pool

The Resort Pool is a spectacularly over-sized pool, on Lake Carillon and adjacent to the Events Green. The Sunrise and Sunset Condominiums and Carillon Beach Inn enjoy exclusive use of this pool. Private memberships are also available to homeowners. The large deck area is accented with palm trees and cobalt blue tiles and planters. The Resort Pool area also has two hot tubs under covered, open-air structures and overlooking Lake Carillon. Enjoy a dip in the pool and then relax in the hot tub while you enjoy magnificent sunsets over the Gulf of Mexico.

Health and Wellness Pavilion

One of the four cornerstones of the Carillon Beach Institute, this pavilion is located between Lake Carillon and the Gulf of Mexico. The Greek inscription “Time stand still by the sea” embellishes the classic Greek architecture of this monument and encourages everyone to take good care of their minds, bodies, and spirits.

The Fountain at Carillon

To quote our town planner, architect Lloyd Vogt, “As social beings, our internal compasses seek the centers of human communities. Historically, these centers were most often manifest in social, communal spaces utilizing the magic of a fountain as a centering device. The element of water has always played an important role in human settlements. Its importance as an element essential to life is obvious, but history demonstrates the human search to go beyond its utilitarian aspect and celebrate its emotional gifts. Guided by the wisdom of thousands of years of history, the use of a fountain as the psychological center of Carillon was a logical choice.” If you watch people as they sit around the fountain area, you will see the joy that this precious element of life imparts.

Children's Pavilion

One of the four cornerstones of the Carillon Beach Institute, this pavilion is located on the east side of Carillon Beach. The pavilion is a whimsical monument with a boy and a girl reaching up to touch a bird in flight, reminding us of the importance of letting our children be children. Personalized monument bricks can be purchased in celebration of life.

Environmental Pavilion

One of the four Cornerstones of the Carillon Beach Institute, this pavilion is located adjacent to the Sunrise Condominium and the Resort Pool. Being good stewards of the land and taking care of our earth are paramount. This pavilion is a quiet place to sit, relax, and reflect. This pavilion combines sensitive architecture and lush greenery.

Village Green

The Village Green is one of the green spaces designed for the community members to play, listen to concerts, or just enjoy a game of croquet or bocce ball. The Village Green is located between the Meeting House and the building housing Carillon Realty, Inc., the 100 Carillon Market Street condominiums, and Baliage Salon and Spa. The Village Green, during the summer season, is the location of Monday night “Groovin’ on the Green” concerts. There are also “movie nights” for the children during the summer and the Village Green is the termination point of the annual 4th of July parade with watermelon, beverages, and games for the kids. The Village Green is also a popular location where destination wedding receptions can be held.

The Promenade

Nestled in the heart of Carillon Beach is a quiet, canopied promenade that invites owners and visitors to stroll hand in hand and enjoy the peaceful solitude of a hidden retreat. Starting at the Meeting House, the Promenade quietly stretches through the community and opens to the Bellview Park pool. Oak trees create a complete canopy over the paver walkway while multiple- varieties of camellia bushes line the sides of the walkway. An round-about in the pathway celebrates with urns of happy-faced flowers.
