Indian Summer

Words cannot describe the beauty of the beach today.  October is one of the best months at the beach and today is the perfect example of this – our first morning in the 50’s with highs predicted in the 70’s today.  There are tide pools all along the shore and basically no surf since the wind is coming out of the north.  Come down and enjoy!

Full Moon, Blue Skies, Championship Horses and Homeowners

We are experiencing our first taste of fall today and it feels great – temperatures in the low 70’s this morning and only into the 80’s this afternoon. We’ll take all of this weather we can get and enjoy the beautiful blue skies and the Gulf regaining its normal aquamarine color after being rouged up by Hurricane Ike last week. If you’re curious about beach erosion, we seemed to lose some sand one day and regain more than we lost several days later. That’s the kind of erosion we like!

Our thoughts go out to all those people suffering along the Louisiana and Texas Gulf coasts.

Our homeowner, Jan Pittman, is a champion in so many ways but she is truly an equestrian champion this year. In the past month she has won 3 of the largest horse shows in the world – the Reichert Invitational in Tulsa, the NSBS World Show in Tulsa and The AQHA World in Amarillo. Last week Jan achieved the “grand slam” and won the open non-pro 3-year-old Western Pleasure division at the All-American Quarter Horse Congress in Columbus, Ohio – the largest horse show in the world. Congratulations to you, Jan, and your mare “Ona Good Impulse!” To look at a video of Jan and her horse, click on this link.

Happy Labor Day!

Just Another Day In Paradise

Happy Labor Day! And, as its happens, I am working today…..in an effort to deliver an update of the effect of Hurricane Gustav on our community. We were fortunate to have moved “outside the cone” yesterday and have only felt small effects of the storm thus far – blustery winds, blowing sands and angry waves. We have had no rain.

The Eastern edge of Hurricane Gustav

High tide is at noon today and, hopefully, that will indicate to us the worst we can expect from Gustav. Each owner of a property in our community names their home. Some seemed especially appropriate today – “Prince of Tides” and “Just Another Day in Paradise.”

Many evacuees are seeking temporary shelter in our community and we wish them well!

Lodging available for Hurricane Gustav Evacuees

We know that people are evacuating Louisiana and may be looking for places to stay short term. Carillon Beach has lovely one bedroom luxury suites available to rent at the Carillon Beach Inn by the day, week, or longer, if needed. All units have a bedroom, bath, kitchenette, internet access, and living room with a queensize sleeper. Each unit has a balcony with a waterfront view. Also available, for weekly and longer rentals, are 3 bedroom luxury condominiums. Our Market Street has shops and restaurants adjacent to the inn. Please contact us at carillonbeachresort.com or toll free at 866-668-7803 for reservations or more information.

Summer Splash Cancellation

The Summer Splash event has been cancelled due to the possibility of imclimate weather over the Labor Day Weekend. We will be planning another event in lieu of the Summer Splash and will keep you posted when a decision is made regarding the new event.

As a sideline, we are excited to announce the opening of The Pottery Bar at 108 Market Street. It is a paint-your-own-pottery store. Come on in, meet the owner, Kathleen McNulty, and have a fun experience painting a piece of pottery for a special event or a decorative accessory. The article will be fired and ready to be picked up before you know it. The shop faces Market Street on the north side and opens to Lake Carillon on the south side – you can paint and enjoy a great view.

Settling into the new website.

The summer is half over here at Carillon Beach and it’s been a great one. Please subscribe to our RSS feeds provided by both the blog and calendar – so that you will be able to keep up with what’s happening here at our seaside village in real time.

Today we have sunny skies, warm Gulf waters and a great day for having fun at the beach. Tonight we will have live team trivia at the Funky Blues Shack. Put on your thinking caps and walk or bike down to Market Street and get a team together for some competitive fun. Grab dinner or a pizza before, during or after trivia at Graffiti Restaurant or the Dirty Dog Pizza Emporium. The game starts at 7:30 p.m. and there will be another one at 9:15 p.m.

On Monday night, the 28th of July, Sticks n’ Stones band will be playing at “Groovin on the Green” from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Bring your blankets, your chairs and your families. Order dinner while you enjoy the music under the stars.

Don’t forget to take the kids to Art Camp at the Funky Blues Shack on Tuesday morning from 10:00 a.m. ’til noon. Tuesday night we’ll have live trivia again at 7:30 and 9:15. Wednesday night is dinner and a movie on the green – this week it’s Shaggy Dog at 8:00 p.m. followed by musician Zach Rosicka in the Funky Blues Shack.
